DESCRIPTION
Come join a small group and embark on an intimate and quite spectacular tour of Fatima and the Atlantic coast, in one of our state-of-the-art coaches.
The city of Fatima is home of the Sanctuary of Fatima, which marks the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima (Virgin Mary) to three young shepperds, back in 1917.
You don't have to be a believer to appreciate the sights of one of the most important sites in the Christian world. Every year, the sanctuary attracts thousands of believers, pilgrims and tourists alike from around the planet.
We will be taking the coastal route towards Fatima in order to enjoy the scenery and will be stopping over in Nazare, a beautiful fishing town with sandy beaches and which boasts fabulous views of the Atlantic and the coast.
En-route, we will pass by the fortified and medieval village of Obidos, where we will make our stop for lunch. Walking around the village and its fortress, and apart from today's cars and mobile phones, one can imagine how life was like in ancient eras, when the sword was the rule, and you'll find yourself half-expecting a Knight to come from around a corner and invite you for a wild boar feast in your honnour, noble traveller.
Upon lunch and having departed from Obidos, we will be stopping by the Monastery of Batalha, a splendorous, magnificent structure displaying one of the best exhamples of Gothic/Manuelino architectural style in the country. The Monastery is also classified as Human Heritage of UNESCO and voted 'one of the seven wonders of Portugal'.
We will then head towards Fatima, leaving the coast behind and roaming through the pleasant pastoral hills and planes. Once there, we will be visiting a series of monuments and sites, such as the Central Basilica ('Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Fátima'), the Chappel of Apparitions, the Pastoral Centre of Pope Paul VI, the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, as well as several other monuments and points of interest surrounding the sanctuary.
Opon our visit, we will head back in the cool climate and comfort of our coach by taking a more direct route towards Lisbon.
