DESCRIPTION
Join us on this amazing tour as we explore the wonders of Greater Lisbon's South coast and let the dramatic scenery from high above the coastal mountain range take your breath away with its natural beauty and expanding views over the ocean and surrounding land.
We will depart from Lisbon heading towards Sesimbra, a gorgeous fishermen's village, tucked away on the Atlantic coast. There, we will be visiting its waterfront avenue and beach, as we pass by a 1648 fortress sitting right on the beach sand.
A once fairly unknown gem off the beaten track, Sesimbra has become one of the newest hotspots in teh region - especially for the practice of sea activities - and one can easily understand why that is: simply put, the village is just stunning, framed by surrounding green hills and its very own medieval castle, watching us from above. As we stroll across the village, we will be visiting the local marina, where you can find a plethora of recreational vessels and fishing boats alike; and the neighbouring fishmarket, which is one of the most active points of commerce in the region, providing fresh fish and seafood to over 2,000 establishments on daily-basis.
Upon our visit to Sesimbra, it is time to head towards the village of Meco, a smaller and more intimate place, where you will work on an appetite as you stroll along the immensity of a 70 kms-long and fairly deserted beach. This is a place of particular beauty: the sharpness of the rocky range behind it, the strong tidal waves crushing on the shore and the great expansion of fine sand will make your mind wonder.
Lunch will then be served in one of the several award-winning restaurants in the region, and where you will taste the freshness and quality of the local produce.
After lunch, our coach will start making its way upwards; not far from the coast but high-above the sea level as we head towards the Arrabida mountain range. At the summit and while you gaze along the Atlantic, you will be able to spot our next destination, sitting by the coast underneath: Setubal, the capital of the district bearing its name. The city is also directly connected with the fishing industry, having expanded over the years due to its natural resources which attracted both national investors and international companies to settle there and investing in the region.
Once there, you will have the chance of exploring its waterfront avenues and adjacent streets, as a visit to the local commerce, where you will attest for the city's craftmenship and artisany is a must. You may wish to try the famed regional wines (such as the 'Moscatel', a type of fortified wine, winner of innumerous awards, such as the one in 2005, when the Food & Wine magazine awarded the first prize for 'the world's best fortified wines' to it). The city is also part of one of the most important wine regions in the country, bearing its own D.O.C. denomination. We will then make our way back to Lisbon in the comfort of our fully-equipped, state-of-the-art coach.
